Business benefits Time-to-market of redesign extremely short; valuable business domain expertise could be fully re-used; completely Web-enabled for operation without additional software on client systems; full independence of proprietary technologies and specific vendors
Project ff-eCommerce is a comprehensive ERP application for medium-sized retailers and wholesalers as well as service providers. In order to secure their solid standing on the market and to keep pace with the rapid developments, ff-eCommerce Software AG decided to completely redesign this application. The main objective was to migrate the system to a modern, component-based J2EE technology while at the same time retaining the rpoven ERP functionality. In the development process, the ArcStyler replaced a 4GL tool to remove all the drawbacks that go along with a proprietary solution, a lack of open interfaces and a native, non-scalable database. ff-eCommerce AG used the model-driven approach of the ArcStyler to completely decouple the valuable business domain model assets from the more ephemeral implementation technologies. ArcStyler's model-to-model and model-to-code generator features as well as its Verifier Framework dramatically increased the development speed and improved the system quality. The project also greatly benefited from the flexibility of the ArcStyler in terms of the adaptability of the generator engine (CARAT Cartridge). |
